From native Japanese editors (and lifelong otaku)

Know the kanji, love it deeper.

Hey — thanks for loving our anime. Seriously, it means a lot. So let us return the favor with the one thing you're probably missing: the kanji. The jutsu names, the blade names, the character names — they're full of meaning, wordplay and rhythm that no subtitle can carry. Honestly? We Japanese get chills from a well-named technique. We built this site hoping some of that feeling reaches you.

How we check

Our house rules

If it isn't correct, it isn't cool. So we check against three things before we write.

The complete Naruto manga, volumes 1 to 72, and all six official databooks on the AnimeKanjiLore shelf

All 72 volumes. All six databooks. Our entire source material, on one shelf. — AnimeKanjiLore editorial

01 · Canon
The manga & official databooks
Spellings and settings are checked against the complete manga and the official Naruto databooks before we write.
The complete manga, plus all six databooks — — on our desk.
02 · Dictionary
Dictionary databases
Readings, stroke counts and meanings come from KANJIDIC2; stroke order from KanjiVG. Straight from the database — no AI writes this.
03 · Feel
A native's take
Sound, dignity, wordplay — how a name feels to a Japanese ear. That part, and only that part, is written by a human editor — as their own honest take.
A word on AI, honestly. The English on this site is translated by AI — we're native Japanese editors, and English isn't our first language. But translation is all it does. What's true, what's stylish, what a kanji really means — that's decided by humans, written in Japanese, by us. So if the English reads oddly, tell us. The Japanese underneath it is ours.
